Dynamics of surface steps

Abstract:

The thermal healing of various profiles imprinted on a crystal surface is studied above and below roughening of that surface. In particular, periodic corrugations and steps are considered., with the relaxation being driven by evaporation-recondensation or surface diffusion. Monte Carlo results are compared with experimental findings and analytic theories.
