Abstract


We study the properties of the ensemble of Cu-O chain fragments that form in the oxygen deficient planes of the REBCO (RE=rare earth) compounds. The chain fragments play an important role in the hole doping of the superconducting planes. The physics of the Cu-O chain fragments themselves can be analysed in terms of an effective ASYNNNI model, derived microscopically.
